Galápagos Below started with a simple conviction: Isabela Island deserved a dive school that matched the quality of its waters. Esteban, a veteran dive professional and anthropologist, spent years on liveaboard vessels across the archipelago — countless 4am-to-11pm days at sea. Valeria, a political scientist who ran community education and digital rights workshops through an NGO on Isabela, handled the logistics and vision. Together with Irving, a local from Isabela and son of a fisherman, and his wife Jennifer — both systems engineers — they built the only dedicated dive school on the island.

Galápagos Below nació de una convicción simple: Isla Isabela merecía una escuela de buceo a la altura de sus aguas. Isabela is the largest island in the Galápagos and sits at the confluence of three major ocean currents. This creates a nutrient-rich underwater world that attracts massive pelagic species year-round. The south coast offers cold, deep waters full of hammerhead sharks, manta rays, and — in season — whale sharks. Until recently, this community had intermittent power and almost no internet. That remoteness is what kept these waters pristine.

Anthropologist turned dive professional. Years on liveaboard vessels across the Galápagos gave Esteban deep knowledge of every current, every site, and every species in these waters. He left the liveaboard grind to build something rooted in community — a school where he could teach properly, with time for each diver. He's a PADI instructor, your guide at Tortuga Island, and the reason the safety standards here are non-negotiable.
